Kampong Thom (or Kompong Thom) its name means "the big port". The province overlooks the Tonle Sap lake and was a powerful capital of the Funan kingdom, the oldest realm of Southeast Asia.
Kampong Thom is very rich in tourism potential, which attracts tourists with its exotic lakes, rivers, forests, mountains and more than 200 ancient temples.
Much of Kampong Thom is located on the floodplain of Tonle Sap Lake, it was an important source of wild fish
Sambor Prei Kuk
Sambor Prei Kuk are the best examples of pre-Angkorian art in the first half of the seventh century. They are situated around 40km from Kompong Thom.
